  3. Policy updated for May 1992, subject to change.

  5.     Advertising in SIMPLE and EASY in GIF News, and very very affordable.
  6.  Basically a small ad, roughly under 1/5 the size of a full page, will be
  7.  free of charge.  Often times these are ads for Bulletin Board Systems.
  8.     GIF News is read by thousands of readers throughout the world.  Besides
  9.  the standard way of distribution through Bulletin Board Systems, GIF News
  10.  travels by means of the worldwide Network of Internet which reaches many
  11.  countries such as Japan, Australia, Norway, Finland, Canada, USA, France,
  12.  Great Britain, Singapore, New Zealand, Mexico, and more.  GIF News can also
  13.  be found on the Compuserve Game Forum in the Magazines download section.

  15.  Here are some guidelines to follow for advertising in GIF News:   
  16.             
  17.        1. If short and small, the ad is free of charge.  I may add
  18.           some simple graphics to make the ad a little more interesting.
  19.        2. If advertising a BBS:
  20.            a. Send me a normal-access user account pre-registered.  In  
  21.               other words, add an Eric Hsiao to your user roster and
  22.               pick a password and send it to me (along with your ad).
  23.            b. If you want your ad to be in more than one issue, you
  24.               must let me know for which issues, individually.
  25.                  This will help me keep track of which boards are still up 
  26.               and which ones have gone down.  This will save our readers 
  27.               from the trouble of dialing long distance to a board and 
  28.               getting a "Sorry, the number you have dialed has been 
  29.               disconnected..."  I am unable to accept requests, for example, 
  30.               that say "Please put my BBS ad for the next 10 issues."  If 
  31.               you want your BBS ad to be in the next 10 issues, you must notify 
  32.               me before the deadline of each of those 10 issues that you want 
  33.               your ad in.  In other words, for 10 ads, you must make 10 requests 
  34.               for ad space.
  35.        3. If contributing money for an ad:
  36.            a. A full page with customized drawn graphics by me will general-
  37.               ly run around $75 - add $25 for each additional issue that you
  38.               want the ad in.
  39.            b. Pre-supplied/drawn graphics full page size will generally 
  40.               be around $50 - add $25 for each additional issue that you
  41.               want the ad in.
  42.            c. Half a page of custom graphics will run around $30 - add $10
  43.               for each additional issue that you want the ad in.
  44.            d. Pre-supplied/drawn graphics half size will be around $15 -
  45.               add $10 for each additional issue that you want the ad in.
  46.            e. Please keep in mind that these are only general numbers, I am
  47.               very flexible and will negotiate.  Also, unlike the FREE BBS
  48.               ad policy, you can request that your ad be in for a certain
  49.               number of issues (ex. "Please put my full page ad in the 
  50.               January issue for a contribution of $50, plus I would like 
  51.               to see it in the March/April and May/June issues for an 
  52.               additional contribution of $50 (2 x $25).  See above for
  53.               contribution guidelines.  
  54.            f. Contributions not need be in the form of monetary units   
  55.               (money).  Instead, products of interest to me such as a
  56.               PostScript Laser Printer, CD-ROM drive, etc. would really
  57.               be appreciated.
  58.           
  59.        4.  Any legitimate commercial/business/organization/group/individual 
  60.            can advertise in GIF News.  GIF News retains the right to refuse
  61.            any advertisement due to content, space considerations, or
  62.            other reasons.  We try to screen all advertisers for legitimacy.
  63.            Complaints against advertisers should be directed toward the 
  64.            advertiser or the Better Business Bureau, not GIF News.
  65.             
  66.        5.  The final deadline for the next issue is 10 days before the issue
  67.            is to come out.  In other words, for the Mar/Apr 1993 issue,
  68.            I must have the ad in my hands by February 21, 1993.
